Robert Bowden discovered a love of photography at a young age that he expanded on during high school and college. In 2009, during his senior year at Western Michigan University, Robert started doing sports photography for a few small, local high schools. After graduation Robert saw that there was a need for affordable sports photography. Robert founded BTech Lighting LLC “Photography by Robert Bowden” that spring and eventually expanded to offer portrait and event photography.
BTech Lighting was founded on the principles of offering the highest quality photographs for a very affordable price. It seemed foolish to Robert that other companies’ prices were so high that most people could not afford them. Robert believes that high school is a special time for young adults that are growing up and that many ‘lifetime memories’ are made every day. It is the driving principle behind Robert Bowden Photography, to capture these special moments.
At the end of 2010 Robert decided that his company needed a new identity. Since he was often being confused as a residential lighting company, Robert decided to change ‘BTech Lighting’ into ‘Robert Bowden Photography’. As part of this transformation, this new website was created to truly display and showcase the wonders of Robert’s photography.
Robert Bowden Photography offers many photographic services including: sports, seniors, events, fashion, modeling, weddings and editorial. Robert also is available as a freelance photographer for newspaper assignments and often is a second shooter/assistant for larger photography companies.
Robert holds degrees from Schoolcraft College – Associates in Liberal Arts, Western Michigan University-Bachelors of Science in Aviation Flight Science, and is a Master’s degree candidate for a Master’s of Science in Information Assurance from Walsh College.
When not working on photography Robert can be found flying overhead in the skies of Michigan. Robert is an FAA Certified Flight Instructor and a Commercial pilot. Robert is also an accomplished percussionist having traveled the country performing as part of Drum Corps International (DCI) and is still involved with sponsoring and educating a future generation of musicians. Robert is also a captain in the Civil Air Patrol, an auxiliary of the United States Air Force, an all volunteer organization where he donates his time and skills as a pilot and photographer.
Robert’s work has been published in many high school years books across Michigan, the Schoolcraft College newspaper, and appears on countless sports teams websites. Robert has assisted on photoshoots for clients including: Hour Media, Ford, ESPN, the University of Michigan and other fortune 500 companies.
